Double victory in the Pitztal in heavy rain

12.07.2024 - Natalie
Many years after our first visit to the Pitztal Valley, Jonas and I stood at the starting line of the Pitztal Glacier Marathon for the first time last summer. Jonas had opted for the full 42.195 kilometres, while I went for the half marathon, which was officially 290 metres too long. On a glorious summer's day, we were able to run to a double victory at our glacier marathon premiere.

Now, a year later, we had travelled from Scotland via Germany back to Tyrol. Jonas once again took on the marathon challenge and I once again tackled the half marathon. Unlike in 2023, however, it rained throughout. So we couldn't talk about a picture-book running day like the one we had experienced the year before. However, we didn't let this put us off our stride and tried to do our best and run a good race despite the unpleasant conditions.

We managed to do this and once again finished first in the Gruabe Arena in Arzl, repeating our double victory. What a cool thing! Of course, we stayed for quite a while, enjoyed the finisher's buffet freshly showered in the rain and watched the award ceremony right to the end. Even though the weather didn't play ball this time, the 18th Pitztal Glacier Marathon attracted around 900 runners, more than ever before. No wonder, because what the organising team puts its heart and soul into year after year and the noticeable striving for sustainability is worth more than a mention. Simply a great race with super nice people and wonderful surroundings!
