In 2023, the Scottish 10K on the outskirts of Edinburgh was also an integral part of our competition calendar. Thanks to the short journey and the fact that it fitted in quite well with our schedule, it was quickly clear that we would be competing again. After Natalie's victory last year and my third place, there was little room for improvement in terms of placings, but that was not our goal. Instead, it was all about doing another good race and running as fast a time as possible.
On the windy turnaround course, we were still able to reach the 5-kilometre mark at about our best pace. However, as the wind was to come from the front in the second half, we lost a few more seconds, as expected. Nevertheless, Natalie was able to defend her last year's victory in a strong 36:22 minutes with a good minute advantage and thus win the prestigious race for the second time. After two third places in the past two years, I finished sixth in 32:33 minutes, my fastest 10-kilometre time since autumn 2021, in a tight race that once again had a strong field.
