We have already been to ski jumping, to football anyway. Natalie and I have also watched other sports at the highest level. But a UCI Mountain Bike World Cup was new territory for us. That's why we were looking forward all the more to the World Cup race in Fort William, which took place on 22 May.
After a few trail running kilometres, we followed the breathtaking event for hours at close quarters along the course. From the start at the top station of the Glen Nevis mountain railway, we hiked down to the finish area with countless breaks. While the best MTB riders only needed just under five minutes, we were on the move for several hours. Again and again, we stopped during our hike, which was 600 metres downhill, to marvel at times just a metre next to the riders whizzing by - and of course to take some pictures and videos, of course. We finally followed the last 15 riders on the grandstand in the finish area. Thanks to the super atmosphere, the wonderful view of the final metres and the first-class Red Bull TV broadcast, we hardly noticed the rain. Instead, we enjoyed the great atmosphere and the exciting experience.
We can definitely recommend being on-site at a World Cup race. It is worth it! If you don't have the opportunity, you can watch the spectacular MTB races live on Red Bull TV. A clear recommendation!
