Have you ever run in a really big stadium - let's say with 50,000 seats or more? There are really not many opportunities for road races in Germany and in many other countries. So for me, too, this was a special experience at the Women's 10K, after all, the route led from Edinburgh city centre to Murrayfield Stadium, Scotland's national rugby stadium.

About 350 metres from Edinburgh Castle, the starting gun was fired on the Royal Mile, probably the most famous and historic street in Scotland. The ten kilometres from the Royal Mile to Murrayfield Stadium took the runners past the Scottish National Gallery, through Princess Street Gardens, over Waverley Bridge and on towards the Scottish Parliament. Up until then, the route was super-fast, after all, the majority of it was downhill. However, this was followed by a lap of Holyrood Park and the very challenging 1.5k climb up to Grassmarket. Once this hurdle was cleared, I could look forward to a final third that led out of the city centre to the stadium with almost no bends or metres of ascent.

As I was already in the lead after a few metres, I kept running my own pace and the gap to the back was already clear after five kilometres, I was suddenly led alone through the streets of Edinburgh by several lead vehicles (quads and motorbikes). The best moment was yet to come, however, as the last few metres led into the 67,144-seat Murrayfield Stadium, which you really only know from a spectator's perspective.
