Test: Mizuno Neo Vista

03.06.2024 - Jonas
First of all: The Mizuno Neo Vista is a top shoe! When I saw the shoe for the first time a while ago, I already suspected that Mizuno would release a really good shoe with the brand new Neo Vista, which will be launched in Europe on 1 June. In the meantime, Natalie and I were able to subject the shoe to a proper stress test and get a detailed test impression. My suspicions were confirmed. But what makes the Mizuno Neo Vista such a great running shoe?

The Mizuno Neo Vista stands 44.5 millimetres high in the rearfoot area. That's a lot, but slightly less than two other shoes that have impressed us in recent years. The first version of the New Balance SC Trainer had a height of 47 millimetres and the Adidas Adizero Prime X even 50 millimetres. As all three models are over 40 millimetres, they are illegal for top athletes in competition according to World Athletics. But that doesn't matter. On the one hand, most runners don't have to worry too much about this rule and on the other hand, we see the shoe primarily as an ingenious shoe for fast long runs or long runs with marathon effort. Mizuno Wave Neo Vista It also cuts a fine figure during interval units, especially for longer interval distances. Beyond this, however, the Neo Vista can generally be seen as a very versatile running shoe. For example, relaxed endurance runs are more than possible and even feel great. However, if you want to take it easy on the shoe, you can limit yourself to the intensive units. Especially when preparing for a marathon, the Mizuno Neo Vista can be the shoe of shoes and make a significant contribution to training success.

The Neo Vista relies on a midsole made from Mizuno Enerzy NXT. The lightweight foam is very reactive and super soft. In combination with the integrated glass fibre reinforced plate, the result is a very dynamic running sensation that is really fun. Thanks to the geometry of the shoe and the rocker construction, the Neo Vista also rolls excellently. Another strong point is the comfortable upper material, which I was initially rather sceptical about. It sits very comfortably on the foot, is breathable and provides additional comfort.

What is particularly striking about the Mizuno Neo Vista, however, is its more than solid weight. In my size 44.5, it weighs 285 grams, which is around 40 grams less than the New Balance SC Trainer (v1), which I also consider to be an excellent shoe. You can clearly feel this difference in weight and it is noticeable in the agility of the shoe.

Now one wonders whether the Neo Vista has any weaknesses. To be honest, these are very difficult to find. Sure, shoes can always be a little lighter and have even more push. Perhaps this would be possible with a thinner upper material and a stiffer plate. At the same time, however, some comfort would be lost in terms of the upper material. It can therefore be said that the Neo Vista doesn't have any significant weaknesses. Nevertheless, we will of course scrutinise any changes in a possible future second version of the shoe.

Finally, we can add to all the strengths that the design of the Mizuno Neo Vista is very successful and that the price of the shoe is very fair for what it offers. Conclusion: The Mizuno Neo Vista is an absolute top shoe!
