A few days ago, Natalie and I took part in the Scottish 10K and Scottish Half on the outskirts of Edinburgh for the fourth time. For the third, or in my case the second time in a row, we chose the flat 10-kilometre race with start and finish at Musselburgh Race Course, a well-known racecourse in the region.
With pleasant temperatures but, unfortunately, too much wind, we tackled the race together with once again numerous other ambitious runners. It went along the coast, so that you could almost hear the sea. After 4.8 kilometres with a tailwind and 200 metres with a headwind, I reached the 5-kilometre mark after a fast 16:19 minutes. Unfortunately, there were another five kilometres of headwind waiting for me at the finish, so I lost a lot of time and reached the finish after 33:07 minutes. As in the previous year, I was happy about the third place despite strong competition.
With the hope that Natalie would also finish on the podium again (she also finished third in 2021), I first waited alone, then with Patrick (34:13 minutes, 7th place), at the finish. Natalie finished exactly four minutes after me. However, unlike me, she was allowed to run through the finishing line. She followed third place with first place and her first victory in this prestigious event. Good race, very good result, but unfortunately too much wind to run at a similar pace on the second half as we had managed on the first half.
