The 10-kilometre distance is probably the most frequently run distance in official races worldwide. So it's no wonder that we Roadrunners Südbaden also run this distance time and again. At the beginning of August, half of the team was at the Berlin City Night, where we tried to set a new best time. My run through Berlin took 33:18 minutes.
After we had found a flat in Edinburgh, I decided at short notice to compete in the Scottish 10-kilometre championships in Stirling. On a good day, I thought, I could possibly break the best time I had set in Berlin. What followed in the shadow of Stirling Castle, towering over the city, surprised me myself.
With an I-have-nothing-to-lose mentality, I entered the race with the fastest airmen in Scotland. Kilometre after kilometre flew by without me really realising the high pace, but I realised that the Berlin time was doable, so: full throttle!
I reached the finish after 32:23 minutes. 55 seconds faster than in Berlin! The only thing I thought at the finish was: “Huiuiui.“
