Test: Adidas adizero adios 5

20.03.2020 - Natalie
The Adidas adizero adios series has been with me for years. I have run many kilometres in the various shoes, often accelerating in training and also wearing them in numerous competitions. So I was particularly excited to test the new Adidas adizero adios 5. Not an hour passed when the package from Running Warehouse Europe arrived and I was running through the streets of Edinburgh in my new running shoes for the first time.

Immediately I had that unique running feeling again that I have had so many times before and that has accompanied me on some great races. Over the next few weeks, I tested the shoe extensively and looked forward to running with the Adidas adizero adios 5 again before every training session. Now the question arises as to what exactly distinguishes the latest shoe in the range.

What immediately stands out is the single-layer upper, which was inspired by the Adidas adizero Sub2. The mesh is breathable, lightweight and durable. It also contributes to the shoe's outstanding good looks. I also like the compression tongue, which is neither too thick nor too thin and contributes to increased comfort. Even more important than the upper material, however, are the layers underneath. As usual, Adidas relies on the responsive Boost sole. This is combined with lightweight EVA, the Lightstrike midsole, and thus not only provides good cushioning, but also a good amount of energy thanks to optimal power transfer. In addition, you get additional propulsion, which I have rarely experienced in other running shoes in recent years. This is primarily due to the new Lightstrike midsole material and Adidas' revised torsion system in the midfoot area. The Adidas adizero adios 5 makes you run noticeably faster.

Another reason why you can run faster is the low weight. In size 42 2/3 the shoe officially weighs 224 grams, in my size less than 200 grams. Not only did the running shoe feel lighter when running, it also felt more responsive. Last but not least, I would like to mention that Adidas also relies on the cooperation with Continental for the Adidas adizero adios 5. As a result, the Continental rubber offers increased traction in all conditions. This is further enhanced by the AdiWear carbon rubber on the heel of the Adidas adizero adios 5, which also adds to the durability of the sole.

Adidas Adios Now you might ask yourself whether the Adidas adizero adios 5 also has weaknesses. Even though I have scrutinised the shoe as critically as usual and talked to Jonas about it time and again, I can't report any weaknesses. That is rare. But it is the case with the Adidas adizero adios 5. I can therefore highly recommend the shoe in general. The Adidas adizero adios 5 is a very good choice, especially for faster paces in the form of intervals, tempo runs or races between five kilometres and the half marathon distance. If you are looking for a minimalist marathon shoe that offers a decent amount of cushioning and stability for a competition shoe, the Adidas adizero adios 5 is also the right choice. If you want to find out more about the Adidas adizero adios 5, or if you want to get it now for your next tempo sessions and competitions, you can find it in several attractive colours at Running Warehouse Europe.
