A running shoe from outer space? Adidas is breaking new ground with the Adidas Ultra Boost 20. Through the partnership between the global brand with the three stripes and the International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory, the Adidas Ultra Boost 20 is sent on a mission 408 kilometres üabove the Earth. So the new Ultra Boost has arrived at the International Space Station ISS. On Earth, Adidas promotes the new Adidas Ultra Boost 20, which is described as a “shoe from space“. But does the Adidas Ultra Boost 20 really run like a shoe from another planet or from space? That is what I wanted to know. Consequently, I tested the shoe thoroughly.
When the package from Running Warehouse Europe arrived and I held the shoe in my hands for the first time, I was already curious whether the Adidas Ultra Boost 20 could give me what I expected from it. After all, I wanted a running shoe with great comfort and very good cushioning, which I wanted to use especially for long runs at medium pace, but also for casual runs.
I already suspected that my expectations would be fulfilled when I first examined it in detail. The midsole and outsole of the Adidas Ultra Boost 20 were taken from its predecessor, the Adidas Ultra Boost 19, and thus continue to guarantee a soft and springy ride. Further developments can be found in the upper material. The upper material is reinforced directly onto the shoe (Tailored Fibre Placement) for improved support. In addition, the Primeknit upper is divided into several sections that fit snugly around the foot for added comfort. Additional cross-linked fibres have also been added to increase the durability of the shoe. At 326 grams, the shoe is not exactly lightweight, but it feels quite light compared to other shoes that also aim for exceptional cushioning.
From the first day of testing, I used the Adidas Ultra Boost 20 to do a few kilometres at medium endurance pace every now and then. It was also used every few days for leisurely, easy endurance runs. In order to test it under more intense stress and at a faster pace, I also completed intervals with the Adidas Ultra Boost 20. As expected, however, it made the best impression during the endurance runs described. I really enjoyed the maximum comfort during the leisurely endurance runs, but also during the slightly faster endurance runs. Especially during these medium-fast endurance runs, it became clear that the shoe offers noticeably more support than its predecessor models. What also struck me positively is the heel area with soft elastane.
It can be said that the Adidas Ultra Boost 20 is an excellent choice for medium-fast and leisurely long runs. The cushioning and the associated comfort in combination with the very stylish design is currently almost unique and therefore appeals to me very much. Compared to older models, the Adidas Ultra Boost 20 is also available in an impressive number of colours and versions. So if you don't fancy a black shoe with a white sole, you can easily find an Adidas Ultra Boost 20 with a red and white sole at Running Warehouse Europe.
