Test: Saucony Fastwitch 9

12.01.2020 - Natalie
The faster, the better? With the Saucony Fastwitch 9, it seems that way. At least that's my impression after testing the Saucony lightweight for quite a while. I have fun with the shoe for normal long runs, but as soon as it gets faster and intervals, a tempo endurance run or even a competition is on the agenda, the running feels even better, lighter, more fluid and ultimately faster. So the Saucony Fastwitch 9 doesn't just inspire me.

Saucony states the weight of the neutral competition shoe, which has a minimal pronation support, in size 39 at just 144 grams. It also feels the same when running - especially when running fast. The drop is 4 mm. The SSL midsole and the PWRTAC sole together provide good cushioning and support compared to other competition shoes. Contact with the ground feels very direct, although the midsole in particular guarantees sufficient cushioning. The low drop provides additional energy recovery. Runners who are not used to low-cut shoes may need some time to get used to them, but after a while they will also benefit from the efficient energy recovery. To get used to the shoe, it is advisable to test it on a tartan track first.

The seamless mash is light and airy. The tongue is very thin and slightly padded. A small weakness, however, is the fit of the upper material to the foot. Although the Mash adapts well, I see some potential for improvement here for a future update.

As already mentioned, the advantages of the Saucony Fastwitch 9 are particularly noticeable at higher speeds. The faster you run, the smoother it feels when rolling. The shoe can be recommended for light runners who primarily land on the forefoot or midfoot. The Saucony Fastwitch 9 is ideal for competitions up to the classic 10-kilometre distance. If you also like to wear a minimalist shoe for half marathons that still offers a certain level of cushioning and stability, you can also opt for the attractive Saucony shoe for this popular distance.

In summary, the Saucony Fastwitch 9 is a lightweight competition shoe with minimal pronation and, as expected, is particularly fun for faster running. I won my first race wearing the shoe. If you are used to shoes with a low drop, you will feel comfortable from the start and be able to run fast.

You can buy the Saucony Fastwitch 9 at Running Warehouse Europe. Those who like to wear competition shoes a little tighter can easily order the shoe in their normal shoe size. Those who prefer a looser fit can also order the shoe in a slightly larger size, as it is also minimalist in its size.
