The Kelpies: More than two horseheads of steel

10.07.2020 - Natalie
Scotland is a country where many myths exist. Among them are the Kelpies, who are natural water spirits. In Celtic mythology, kelpies are described as strong horses that inhabit the flowing waters of the Scottish Highlands. According to legend, they attract people who want to cross the river. Instead of helping them across, it drags them down into the depths.

. While in the past children were told about the legend, since 2013 attention has been drawn to the Celtic mythology between Falkirk and Grangemouth by two 30-metre-high steel horse pens. The two kelpies can already be seen from the motorway. A detour is worthwhile, especially as the Helix Park can be reached from there within a few minutes.

The park invites you to linger. In addition, cycling tours can be started from here. The 25-kilometre Helix Around Town Tour takes you past the Falkirk Wheel, another tourist attraction in Falkirk, and through Callendar Park. If you want an exclusive look inside the Kelpies, you can join a tour to learn all about the 300-ton sculptures, which are the two largest horse sculptures in the world.
